Mr. Ella Aji Williams, the National Youth Service Corps’ (NYSC) Taraba State Coordinator, has reassured corps members deployed to the state that their security and well-being continue to be the program’s top concerns.
Williams made the promise on Friday at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Sibre, Ardo-Kola Local Government Area, during the swearing-in and inauguration of 1,166 corps members sent to Taraba State for the 2026 Batch “B” Stream II Orientation Course.
He characterised the three-week orientation exercise as an essential program intended to foster national unity, develop character, and instill discipline in graduates.
Williams addressed the corps members, stating that under the NYSC program, they were now part of a single national family rather than graduates from several universities.
“The orientation course consists of more than just lectures, physical training, military drills, and social events. It’s a character school. We will assess your self-control, flexibility, resilience, teamwork, and emotional intelligence throughout the course of the following three weeks,” he stated.
The corps members were instructed by the state coordinator to behave responsibly by showing consideration for one another, following legal directives from camp administrators and security guards, arriving on time for all scheduled events, and keeping the camp tidy.
Williams also praised the North East Development Commission (NEDC) for its ongoing assistance to Taraba State’s NYSC. He claims that the commission recently upgraded security at the orientation camp by installing 50 solar-powered street lights.
In order to enhance the availability of water and the general well-being of corps members, he continued, the NEDC is presently constructing a solar-powered borehole with a 40,000-liter storage capacity.
The coordinator also urged participants to fully utilise the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program, pointing out that it provides chances to gain useful skills for independence following national service.
Dr. Agbu Kefas, the governor of Taraba State, earlier reiterated his administration’s dedication to the security and well-being of corps members throughout their year of duty in the state.
The governor, represented by Mr. John Kizito Bonzena, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, announced that the orientation camp would shortly undergo renovations to give corps members better living conditions.
