At least six individuals perished following the explosion of a gas-laden truck at an Army checkpoint on the Abuja-Lokoja Federal Highway in Kogi State.
The incident was revealed in a post on X on Tuesday night by security analyst Zagazola Makama.
The incident transpired within the Chikara Division’s authority, eliciting a rapid response from police officers, Motor Traffic Division (MTD) staff, and Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officials.
The gas truck delivering gas cylinders allegedly burst while nearing the Army roadblock, igniting a substantial fire that extended to adjacent vehicles.
The gas truck driver and his assistant perished in the fire, which also consumed three additional vehicles, resulting in the deaths of their drivers and assistants. Makama said that a total of six individuals perished in the tragedy.
The trucks, registered in Jigawa State, Lagos State, and the Federal Capital Territory, were all consumed by the fire.
The victims’ remains were sent to the General Hospital in Abaji, and the incinerated automobiles were cleared off the highway to facilitate the unobstructed flow of traffic.
