Rabiu Kwankwaso, the presidential running mate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has revealed that during his eight years as governor of Kano State, he never received a single naira from the security vote.
Kwankwaso made the statement while maintaining that Northern Nigeria’s severe leadership shortcomings are to blame for the state police.
In an interview with Mr. Kay on News Central’s 60 Minutes, he was asked how the NDC administration will combat corruption if elected to power.
“We will start from homes, governor, my hands are clean,” Kwankwaso declared. During my eight years as governor, I never received a single naira from security votes.
“Nigerians are decent people who always demand a good administration. We are arranging for the establishment of a system that can assist and function in this nation.
“The state police are the result of a massive leadership failure in Northern Nigeria.”
Additionally, the former governor emphasised that there are other risks connected to state police.
“State police are associated with numerous risks. They would be used for political protection by the governors.
“The government must not permit the circulation of small arms just like that; no Hisbah man anywhere has guns,” he continued.
