CSP Nkeiruka Nwode, the representative of the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters Annex in Lagos, has urged Nigerians to practise patience and avoid disseminating unconfirmed claims regarding the demise of Miss Mary Habila.
On Friday, Nwode characterised Habila’s demise as a devastating tragedy and extended sympathies to her family, friends, and anyone impacted by the bereavement.
She implored the populace to permit the relevant authorities to conduct a comprehensive, unbiased, and transparent inquiry, encompassing an autopsy, emphasising that justice for the deceased and equity for all involved must be intertwined.
Mourning should never serve as a justification for conjecture, defamation, or the dissemination of unsubstantiated claims. Individuals ought not to be judged and sentenced via social media,” she stated.
The high-ranking police official emphasised that verifiable information, not speculation, ought to steer public conversation around the issue, emphasising that legal procedures must be permitted to unfold completely.
Nwode also warned against using the situation to disseminate slanderous remarks or incite public outrage, emphasising that language carries repercussions and that reputations earned over years should not be obliterated by conjectures or unsubstantiated accounts.
She contends that accountability need to supersede sensationalism, and that justice must be prioritised over bias as enquiries progress.
She beseeched God to bestow everlasting repose upon Miss Habila, solace for her family and dear ones, and to guarantee that truth, justice, and tranquillity ultimately triumph.
