Following his kidnapping by armed terrorists, Hon. Nura Umar Abdullahi, the Executive Chairman of Bungudu Local Government Area in Zamfara State, is being rescued by troops under Operation FANSAN YAMMA.
Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the Media Information Officer for Operation FANSAN YAMMA, said in a statement on Saturday that the attackers broke into the chairman’s house early on July 25, 2026, overpowering local vigilantes and police officers before kidnapping him and a few members of his family.
According to the military, when they heard gunfire, troops reacted right away and chased the assailants, sparking a bloody gunfight.
“Troops’ prompt intervention forced the terrorists to abandon five of the chairman’s family members, comprising two of his children, mother, wife, and his relatives, who were successfully rescued,” the statement stated.
“The terrorists narrowly escaped into surrounding bushes with the Chairman,” the military added.
The assault became lethal as well. “Members of the chairman’s security detail, including two policemen and one local vigilante who gallantly resisted the attackers, were killed in the attack,” the statement said.
Alhaji Bello Umar, the chairman’s older brother, was hurt during the assault, and a civilian was also murdered.
The Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), effort FANSAN YAMMA troops, and local vigilantes participated in a coordinated search-and-rescue effort, according to the military.
According to the statement, security personnel are working to securely recover the council chairman by conducting operations in areas where the abductors are thought to be hiding.
The command assured the Zamfara State Government and citizens that every legal and practical measure is being taken to ensure the chairman’s release, and it stated that it has dedicated all of its resources to the mission.
Additionally, it asked locals to maintain composure, go on with their regular activities, and submit pertinent information via official security channels that could support the ongoing operation.
