As part of continuous efforts to stop illicit mining operations throughout the state, the Anti-illicit Mining Task Force, headed by Superintendent of Police Jamu Emmanuel, has detained 20 suspected illegal miners in Taraba state.
The Task Force claims that the suspects were captured on Saturday while travelling to an illicit mining site in the state due to reliable information.
According to the team’s preliminary investigations, the suspects are Zamfara State locals who allegedly went to Taraba to carry out illicit mining activities.
Jamu Emmanuel confirmed the development and stated that the suspects are being held and would be turned over to the Taraba State police command for additional investigation and potential prosecution.
As part of the ongoing investigation, he continued, materials recovered from the suspects are being documented.
The Task Force Commander reiterated security personnel’s commitment to eradicating illicit mining operations in the state and issued a warning that anyone caught doing so would be subject to the full force of the law.
In order to assist continued efforts to safeguard the state’s natural resources and uphold law and order, he also urged the public to keep giving security services reliable and timely information.
